Activity #1  Health & Nutrition

This lesson may take up to two to three - 45 minute classes. The lesson will be taught in collaboration with the Librarian.

Description: Using Kidspiration, students will create a nutritious breakfast, lunch and dinner by feeding Gregory the goat.

Goals: Students will gain understanding that everyone, including animals, needs a healthy, well balanced diet.

Objectives: Student will use the 'New and Improved Food Pyramid' to create a healthy meals, including proper snacks.

Procedure:

 

Before coming to the Computer Lab, students will read, "Gregory the Terrible Eater" with the school's librarian or classroom teacher.

In the Lab:
Using the website provided (
USDA Website), review with children what each color means and the number of servings that are allowed from each group for one day.
 
Open Kidspiration to the Feeding Gregory Template:

Students will be asked to feed Gregory a balanced breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner. Gregory will be fed according to the age of the student.

Using the Food Library, students will pull out food items according to the necessary food groups. When done with all meals, students can add up items to see if Gregory has eaten a well balanced meal!
