Subject Area:  Language Arts

Amount of time required for activity: 1 class

Introduction:

The students will follow along as they listen to Wait and See by Robert Munsch. The story can be found on Tumblebooks

Wait and See, by Robert Munsch  plays upon the fantasy of having wishes come true. In this story, Olivia's "birthday cake" wishes come true once the candles are blown out. Like most children, Olivia does not consider the consequences of her wishes beyond satisfying her whims.

Go to Tumblebooks and access the story, Wait and See. The story will be illustrated on line as well as read to them. It will take about 7 minutes to finish the story. Once done, discuss the main idea. Ask students what they thought about Olivia's wishes. What would they wish for?

Have students open Kidspiration to create a birthday cake. When they have completed their cake, they can either draw what they wish for by using symbol maker, or pull out representations of their wish from the picture library. They should have 3 wishes and with each wish a sentence and picture.
